THE PLACES WE CALL HOME
TITLE
Past is Present
I am an emerging photographic artist based in Western Sydney. I grew up in Merrylands and later moved to a small suburb just outside of Parramatta. Home - both a physical and intangible encounter. My body of work titled Past is Present is an exploration of my perception of home, through my Lebanese upbringing, traditions and cultural identity.

Home stems from the story of my grandparents, of immigration, new beginnings and loss. These images represent elements of the past that have profound meaning and an ongoing legacy in my life. Here the past is blurred with the present.
The Places We Call Home is my first exhibition as a photographer. Like many emerging artists, I frequently encounter moments of self-doubt, but I am actively cultivating a mindset of resilience and growth. Personal growth facilitates learning about yourself not just as an artist but also as a human, because home is also found within yourself.
Working on this collection brought me closer to my grandmother as we collaborated and lovingly reminisced about my late grandfather. I hope that viewers establish a connection with elements of my work, experiencing comfort, and rediscovering fragments that ignite their own nostalgic memories.
